Andy and Rick have been together for 22 years and they are getting married in June this year. Andy is a good friend from work and I was honored when he asked if I'd shoot their engagement photos and wedding.
I have wanted to support same sex marriage (other than via a vote) and I was super psyched to do a shoot with them around their house in Thornton with their little girls and in Denver. I finally had the opportunity to use both lens chimping and prisming, and was rather pleased with the results. You can see a few examples of those below.
It's clear that they both love each other very much, and that was cool to see. In my time with them, I learned that they laugh a lot... with each other and at each other. I'm glad to see this because my fiance and I do the same. We kid because we love. The relationship is going strong and both of them seemed a little emotional about the upcoming wedding. It seemed like a bit of what they've been through together, the renewed excitement of the future ahead, and finally getting closer to what they thought was impossible.
Andy posted some of these shots on facebook earlier this week and it was amazing the reaction he received. The outpouring of support and caring messages from his friends, family, and international kids was huge. They've been hosting international students for 14 years through upwithpeople and it's clear that they've made a lot of lasting relationships. It's inspiring to see these two. They'd pass that sort of thing off, but I know deep down they know they've got a good thing. Can't wait for the wedding guys!
